3rd GrADE mATH rESOURCES
In third grade, students develop an understanding of the meaning of multiplication and division of whole numbers through activities and problems involving equal-sized groups, arrays, and area models. Students use properties of operations to calculate products of whole numbers, using increasingly sophisticated strategies based on these strategies to solve multiplication and division problems involving single-digit factors. Students develop an understanding of fractions, beginning with unit fractions. Students use fractions to represent numbers equal to, less than, and greater than one. They solve problems that involve comparing fractions by using visual fraction models and strategies based on noticing equal numerators or denominators. Grade 3 students also measure the area of a shape by finding the total of same-size units of area required to cover the share without gaps or overlaps, a square with sides of unit length being the standard unit for measuring area. Students also describe, analyze, and compare properties of two-dimensional shapes, compare and classify shapes by their sides and angles, and connect with definitions of shapes.

pLAYLISTSPlaylists are a way that students can learn new content at their own pace. They are a collection of videos, interactive activities, and quick checks that students can work on independently to show their thinking and acquire mastery in a given area. Check out some third grade playlists below or try creating your own playlist via Blendspace or another tech platform.

pathwaysPathways are another independent learning tool that students may utilize to master a given concept. Students may start on different levels of the pathway and may receive varying degrees of support with the given material. At the end of a given pathway, a quick check is administered to determine if a child has mastered this standard or needs additional review.
